Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Rest in Power
A call to mobilize and organize.
Women’s Health Specialists, founded in 1975 by women who believed in and fought for self-determination and reproductive health rights and justice, has been the haven that put into practice the advancement of women’s rights and gender equality that Ruth Bader Ginsburg argued and advocated for.
For nearly half a century, women in the U.S. have been protected by Roe.v Wade. Despite this legal shield, throughout these decades, we’ve endured assaults from both right-wing extremists and government laws imposing ever-increasing restrictions on our reproductive rights –and from lethal domestic terrorist acts, which have injured and claimed the lives of doctors, medical workers, and numerous other individuals involved in reproductive health care.
Now, with an imminent hard-right-dominated SCOTUS, our hard-won rights are endangered as never before. Today and in the days ahead, we call on all our allies to stand with, lift up, and center reproductive health clinics…clinics central to people’s lives…clinics that are the battlegrounds of equality, bodily integrity and gender justice.
At this dangerous time, to rescue the reproductive rights we have depended upon for nearly 50 years, we must meet these outrageous assaults with ruthless ferocity.
We must resolve to protect one another from rightwing extremist government intruding on our dominion over our own bodies, such as forced sterilization at the border; forced childbirth through the elimination of reproductive health clinics through deceptive targeted restrictive abortion regulations that purport to protect clients but instead limit or end all access to abortion; or through the demonization of and refusal to meet the needs of our LGBTQIA+ communities.
We must continue to stand against white supremacy and elucidate the ploys of a heartless patriarchal system that leaves so many of us behind.
Stand with Women’s Health Specialists, and other reproductive health clinics as we gear up for the fight of—and for—our lives. The future of our rights, our nation, and our planet is at stake.
This is the time.
Katrina Cantrell, Executive Director Women’s Health Specialists
