State of Nebraska Restricts Women’s Access to Abortion

April 13, 2010 - 0 Comments
On April 13, 2010, the Governor of Nebraska signed an anti-abortion law that will take effect in October. The law makes it illegal to perform abortions after 20 weeks gestation, or after “viability” which is generally thought to be 22 weeks. The only provision for having a legal abortion after 20 weeks is if the woman’s life is in danger. Nancy Northup of the Center for Reproductive Rights said, “If some of these other anti-abortion bills have been chipping away at Roe v. Wade, this takes an ax to it.” For the first time, a law restricting abortion on the basis of fetal pain will certainly be subjected to legal challenges. for more information, click here to read the NY Times article.
